Just four flushes a day!

As the drought continues in most parts of the country, many businesses are looking at what they can do to reduce their water consumption.

One of the largest users of water is the humble urinal, which is responsible for between 10% to 30% of your water consumption every year.

So what are the options? Reducing water to the urinal creates a series of problems that lead to higher maintenance costs, smelly urinals and unhappy staff and cleaners – and besides, it’s against Australian plumbing regulations to turn off the water in a urinal that was not originally designed to be waterless.

You could go to the expense of installing or retrofitting waterless urinals.

Or you could safely reduce to four flushes a day, using the EXP Bio Block System!

The EXP Bio-block range is designed to save water without the need to upgrade or replace expensive hardware.

Instead, the EXP Bio Block Systemuses millions of friendly bacteria specially selected to target uric salt deposits – the major cause of smelly urinals.

In most loos, a build-up of uric salts and sludge in the pipe-work and urinal components provides a breeding ground for airborne bacteria, which feed and produce foul smells. The deposits are virtually impossible to remove with water and everyday cleaners, and even the most powerful chemical cleaners only offer a temporary fix.

But the friendly bacteria in the EXP Bio Blocks soften the uric deposits, which are then washed away when the urinal is cleaned with the companion Biological spray solution. The urinal stays fresh and clean and deposits are prevented from returning.

How much water will we save?
If the urinal is flushed just four times a day, you can save up to 95% of the water you currently use to flush your loo.   In average urinal, this may represent over 120,000 litres of water a year!

A certain amount of water is needed to clean the urinal and flush out the results of the biological action, but the actual volume will depend on several factors – how many people use the facilities, and how often; and current flush volumes.

What other savings can we make?
Savings can be made in water consumption; reduced sewage discharge costs (if applicable); urinal deep cleaning; and chemical costs, including bleach and caustic cleaners.

How long does a cube last in each urinal?
Normally cubes last from 1-5 weeks depending on how many people use the urinal. The cubes slowly dissolve, releasing bacteria and a mild perfume. Once the block has reduced to around 10% of its original size, a fresh Block is added, and the old one dissolves away.

Can the system be used in Trough urinals?
Yes – the system works the same way. Place Bio-Blocks at 500mm intervals along the trough base and clean as normal every day, using the companion Biological spray.

Is the Bio Block system easy to maintain?
Yes! The cleaning procedures are outlined in a easy-to-follow guide. Only use the companion Biological spray so that the friendly bacteria can do their work.

What can go wrong?
If the recommended cleaning practices are followed, very little should go wrong.
If bleach or other chemical products are used, or maintenance flushing is not performed, then problems may occur.
While the Bio Blocks can prevent the build up of uric salts, they can’t prevent hair and foreign debris from lodging in pipework.  A manual clean may be required in these circumstances.
