That’s the idea behind Corporate Express’ new Indigenous Support Program, launched in late 2008.
Working with Reconciliation Australia – the peak national organisation building and promoting reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians – Corporate Express will develop its own Reconciliation Action Plan.
Part of this plan involves working with the Federal Government proposed Australian Indigenous Minority Supplier Council, becoming the first organisation to support the Council’s aims of providing a direct link between corporate Australia and indigenous-owned businesses.
In Western Australia, Corporate Express is a piloting an employment project for Indigenous employees, including hiring a part-time Indigenous Coordinator. To support us in this, the company has received funding from the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations for the Structured Training and Employment Project (STEP). This flexible financial package and tailored support helps employers provide quality job opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
Corporate Express has partnered with the Federal Government to develop innovative start-up programs to help stimulate and build effective Indigenous employment strategies.
Corporate Express will also hold activities all over Australia to increase awareness amongst employees of Indigenous communities and challenges including:
· Sorry Day: 26 May;
· Reconciliation Week: 27 May - 3 June; and
· NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week: 5 - 12 July.
