Joe Taylor wins Young Professional of the Year

MEDIA RELEASE 7 SEPTEMBER 2010

Corporate Express continues to gain recognition for its innovation following last week’s win of the Young Professional of the Year Award, which recognises young people that have excelled in the provision of services, development of strategy and supply chain management.

The Australian Logistics Magazine annual Mercury Awards event was held in Sydney last week, to honour the best of the best in logistics and supply chain innovation. The awards are a celebration of innovation in the logistics and materials handling industries.

National Transportation Manager for Corporate Express, Joe Taylor (24), was honoured for his innovative and dynamic thinking following the development of a national distribution model that allows the centralisation of slow moving inventory.

Joe successfully implemented a project that has lead to a $2.8 million saving in operating costs and resulted in significant improvement in carbon emissions, with fewer vehicles on the road and a reduction in the number of kilometres driven.

Joe Taylor says: “I didn’t think I had a chance given the calibre of the other finalists in the category.”

Executive General Manager, Supply Chain, Tim Beauchamp says people like Joe are integral to Corporate Express’ success as a company.

“By giving employees increased responsibility to execute ideas we are able to introduce innovative ideas that are beneficial for all areas of our business.

“Having a fresh and innovative approach allows us to leverage these projects in other areas of the business.

“Corporate Express has a smart, innovative culture that encourages staff to challenge the way we do things and empowers them to make their ideas translate into business innovation,” Mr Beauchamp said.

Corporate Express has previously won numerous awards for its sustainable practices including the 2010 iCMG Award for Best Green Architecture (Green IT), 2010 United Nations Association of Australia World Environment Day awards (finalist, Business Sustainability/Sustainability Leadership) and 2008 Ethical Investor Sustainable Company of the Year.
